BALA

With another brilliant performance and social message,Ayushman Khurana has added to his hit list called Bala.

In film after film the actor usually playing a middle class,small town character tackles subjects that are considered risky for the world of Hindi cinema. He started with sperm donation in Vicky Donor and seem to be working through all types of social issues. 

Bala is about 'lookism' defined as discrimination based on physical appearance. 

Bala is a balding 25yrs old living in Kanpur. He was named Balmukund because of his hair ,but now he's shiny hair are transforming into a lessening hairline. He is, as it is shown in the movie - from Shah Rukh Khan to Anupam Kher.

Anyone who has woken up with hair on the pillow will relate to the amount of Bala's pain.

As he loses more hair, his attempts to hold on to them become even more desperate.

Bala explores every remedy-from hair transplant to mixture of cowdung and semen.

He's unfortunate enough brother has the job of applying this mixture.

Dheerendra Kumar, Gautam who plays the role of he's brother is simply amazing and so are Saurabh Shukla and Sunita Rajwar as Bala's parents.

Director Amar Kaushik gets these details exactly right- Bala's argumental family,he's relationship between his father and his maternal grandfather who's house they live in,the obsession with Bollywood and Tik Tok ,the narrow streets in which the wedding band plays the song Tequila and the accents,aspirations of small town India.

Pari , Lucknow's Tik Tok queen is played by amazing Yami Gautam.

In one of the film's best scenes,Pari explains to Bala why good looks have always been her priority because her life revolves just around likes and comments on social media and her words hit hard.

Bhumi Pednekar,painted many shades darker is Bala's childhood friend Latika. She's in the film to teach us why your obsession with fair skin is a terrible thing.

Where as,the  movie was a family entertainer it also brought awareness to the racist narrative in our scociety on the basis of age,gender,colour ,weight and cast.
